Emisar D4V2CuZn Flashlight Review – SST20 4000k Neutral White

Last Update 11-04-2021

Emisar D4V2CuZn Flashlight review, this is the Brass version of the popular D4V2 or D4V2Ti, a heavy piece able to dissipate heat well.

It is available with a wide range of LED options, I chose the SST20 4000k NW FA3 95CRI as I’m in love with the creamy tint and very high CRI (Color Rendention Index), colors truly pop up and everything shines in a natural way.

Official Specs:

• CNC machined from Brass.
• Efficient UK made Carclo Quad LED optics – 10622
• Anti-reflective coated glass lens – made of glass
• Unihead construction
• High lumen output and low moon output
• Ramping interface
• Electronic soft touch switch
• Beryllium-Copper springs with 45% IACS superior to stainless steel alloys used for springs with only 2% IACS.
• Temperature step-down
• Waterproof and dustproof to IP67 standard (up to 1 meter)
• Default 18650 body with optional 18350 battery tube
• Dimensions: 96mm(length) * 28mm(head) * 24mm(body), 65mm(lenght 18350)
• Weight with battery 217gr. without battery 171gr
• OTF lumen output at start-up: SST-20 4000K FA3 95CRI: 3000lm

The UI is the awesome Anduril (Source code is available from http://tiny.cc/TKAnduril) customizable and multi function UI designed by Toy Keeper, you can set low, high, ramping, or stepped modes.
There are also lockout modes with moon-low, candle and lightning storms accessory modes.
You can even set the temperature limits or know how much juice (volts) is left in your battery.

Other functions are:
Direct moonlight (long press from off)
Moonlight in locked mode (2 levels)
Memory mode (auto-manual)
Muggle mode
Electronic Lockout
Battcheck – Temp Check
Candle mode
Lightning Storm
Party strobe with various levels
Tactical strobe
Bike strobe
Stepped or Ramping mode (can be configured)

It runs on 18650 Li-Ion rechargeables, very easy to find and cheap to operate, I use Sanyo 18650GA’s they are 3.350mah and 10A, the quality is solid and they work well in any climate.
It works equally well, although having shorter runtimes with Samasung 35E and 30Q, the output is visually the same.

The CuZn Brass version is made of real heavy weight Brass, an alloy of copper and zinc, in proportions which can be varied to achieve varying mechanical and electrical properties. It is a substitutional alloy: atoms of the two constituents may replace each other within the same crystal structure.
Being largely constituted of Copper it has superb heat dissipation properties, it gets hot slower than the Aluminium or Titanium/Copper counterparts and sustains high outputs longer, quickly visible on Turbo and high ramping levels.

Another lovely side of Brass is that the threads are literally butter smooth! it’s the smoothest flashlight I have ever owned, much more than titanium, incredibly much more and, a lot smoother than aluminium, eve with lo lubricant added (I use silicone grease).

The V2 of the D4 can be customized with different (single color) lighted switches, I choose green because it’s soft on the eyes at night and is the color with less battery drain of the possible options.

More info will be added as long as it gets used.

Now, some pictures.

RGB Aux Lights with SST20 4000K FA3 CRI95 Leds and a 10622 clear, medium spot Carclo TIR Optic.

I’ve turned the standby leds on green and the lockout leds on “voltage mode” for easy knowledge of the battery status, one of the best Anduril features.

On low to 50% theaux leds go dim or high, indicating the level, if regulated or on FET mode.

Moonlight mode

Tailcap engraving, still little patina.

The smoothest threads (square cut) I’ve ever handled, a joy.

Orings for water tightness.
