NOCTIGON DM1.12 DUAL CHANNEL LED flashlight review

Thrower – Flood Outdoor Flashlight 21700 Battery SST20 4000K / Osram W2 CSLPM1.TG 6000K

NOCTIGON DM1.12 DUAL CHANNEL LED flashlight review – Outdoor Flashlight – 21700 Battery SST20 4000K / Osram W2 CSLPM1.TG 6000K – it’s been a while since I last reviewed one of Hank’s flashlight, this one has been largely used over the last couple years and it became one of my most used at night and one of my favourites.

First, it’s another rarely seen setup, a dual channel flashlight, this means it’s two flashlights in ONE!: a 12x LED first (main) channel set up as a flooder and a 1xLED (secondary) channel set up as a thrower, which can be easily exchanged with a couple clicks.

The main 12x channel sports 9x SST-20 4000K 95CRi LEDs from luminus, one of my absolutely favourite tinted LEDs of those I was able to try, both lights showed in the review have this as the 12x LEDs channel

The LEDs are monted on 12x single TIR (total internal reflection) optics with a custom frosted carrier to hold them, with a notch on the housing to dead-center it.

The secondary single channel sports on my two samples another single SST-20 4000K 95 cri on the black one, and an Osram W2 CSLPM1.TG 6000K on the white MAO. On both the Optic is sinigle TIR with 3 centering pins, visible in the pictures.

There’s no specification on driver on Hank’s website unfortunately, I’m not sure it used the K9.3’s driver or not.

The flashlight uses Anduril 2 as a firmware with dual channel software.

The uptated firmware allows for simple or advanced UI with both ramping and stepped interface, various blinky modes, sos, flashes, automatic lockout function, LVP, battery check and to manage 6x RGB LEDS that can be setup differently in operational mode and in lockout, these are hosted below the single led optic.

On the DM1.12 the only additional funcion is to switch between Channel 1 and Channel 2, this is obtained with 2 single click and hold on the 3rd, the light changes channel keeping the same output of the other channel. See pictures below to see both modes active, there’s no way to have both turned on toghether.

To operate the DM1.12 you use an electronic swith mounted on the side of the head, with 4x single color LEDs, Green and Amber on my 2 samples, blinking the same as the other RGB LEDs.

Hank does offer these in Cool White, Warm White, RGB, Red, green, Blue, Amber and Cyan.

One particular funcion of the button is that it’s very dim from step 1 to the upper regulated lever and high from the latter to turbo.

The upper regulated output (usually 150lm) is useful for when longer runtimes are needed without draining the battery too fast.

The upper regulated level is standard on battery insertion/twisting the body after the power connected blink.

The DM.12 is waterpfoof and dustproof to IP67 and has worked well under rain.

Lastly the light comes in a very simple kit: flashlights, orings, lanyard.

No battery, cables or unnecessary (price rising) stuff comes from Hank.

Optics closeup:

12x single flood TIR with grid and a single large thow TIR.

The Optics are made of plastic, apparently PMMA.

NOTE: the lens is real double coated A/R (anti reflection) GLASS, no PMMA or cheap plastic like you sometimes see, that brakes easily and can compromise the IPX rating and ruin the light if water gets inside.

The main body, you grip while holding it has some aggressive gear like knurling, it’s aggressive but not rough on the skin.

The Groove on the end of the tube could be used for a clip (none available) or as I have, to pass some paracord to create a lanyard around it.

The tail is slim, while the flashlights gets large at the head, it can both stand down flat and stand up in clandle mode.

The flashlight disassembles in 3 parts: Head, Body, Tailcap.

The body is 2.3mm thick aluminium.

The 2 springs, one on the head, one on tha tailcap are Beryllium-Copper springs with 45% IACS, superior to stainless steel alloys used for springs with only 2% IACS.

The International Annealed Copper Standard is a value that indicates the electrical condictivity.

Next to the head’s spring are the contacts for the firmware update, I haven’t tried yet but friends have updated their Anduril lights numerous times.

Inside the head is the Light’s Engine, the electronic heart of the flashlight.

Inside the tailcap you see an unusual MCPB, covered in copper, it allows, making contact witht the body to let the current flow.

The MCPB has a better conductovity than the usual triangular spring found often.

NOTE: there is no USB onboard charging unlike on the Noctigon K9.3

HAIII Black Body/Tube:

Usual square cut threads on both of mine:

White MAO Body/Tube:

The Body/Tube is approx 2.3mm thick, a good thickness for sturdyness.

The parts are so precisely made you can LEGO them and create a different flashlight:

The Dm1.12 also has 4 coloured leds (Amber here) and 6x RGB AUX leds behind the optics (amber Red/Green shown here)

Last Words and Conclusions:

Both DM1.12’s were bought by me personally, the review is honest with positive and negative experiences with the light. I was not paid for the review.

What I like:

  • GREAT quality for the price
  • runs on 21700 and on 18650 on an emergency
  • powerful
  • hefty
  • thick alu
  • dual channel design
  • ramping interface
  • RGB aux lights
  • many extra functions
  • can be updated (on the firmaware side)

What I DON’T like:

  • nothing in particular

Other considerations:

  • a belt sheath would be good, it’s not really a pocket-friendly light
